On February 9, 2011, Mayor Steve Bach announced more good news for the City of Colorado Springs and his support of a better business environment.
Frontier Airlines announced new non-stop routes from the Colorado Springs Airport (COS). In Frontier’s news release, Senior Vice President Daniel Shurz was quoted as saying, “Our commitment to Colorado Springs extends far beyond the addition of these new markets. We look forward to becoming a bigger part of the southern Colorado community and serving as your hometown low-cost airline.”
Frontier Airlines has applied to the Department of Transportation to provide daily non-stop service between the Colorado Springs Airport (COS) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). Obtaining non-stop service to DCA has consistently ranked at the top of the priority list for Colorado Springs business and military leaders, and has been a focal point of the Airport’s air service development efforts for years.

DCA slots are awarded through a highly competitive process that is regulated by Congress and managed by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). When slots are made available, interested airlines submit an application to DOT. Once the applications are submitted, airports, community leaders, businesses, governmental agencies and individual citizens all have an opportunity to submit letters of support and comments for consideration in the selection process. This is where you have opportunity to get involved.
The link above will take you to the DOT’s website, where you can express your support for this service. Look for the button “Submit a Comment” in the upper, right-hand corner. Please use this as an opportunity to explain how non-stop service to DCA would benefit you or your organization.
