I walk by every day and see so many children and parents enjoying themselves." -Citizen Comment "The crew from Engine 15A were professional, knowledgeable, courteous, and extremely helpful, not only did this group of professionals represent the Fire Department in a positive light, they also speak to a city government that is responsive and courteous to the public."- Citizen Comment "We've found with projects we're doing, the City seems to be as proactive as they possibly can be." -Real Estate CEO "Grateful for the progress made by CSPD to curb shoplifting." -Business Loss Prevention Manager "Not only was my concern addressed in a professional and timely manner, but Finance Planning & Analysis Manager Leslie Hickey took the time to let me know that changes were on the way. This is the direct opposite of some folks' perception of local government." -Citizen Comment "Thank you very much for fixing the potholes on the round about for Squirrel Tail and Brainard as well as the divot by the water outlet on Squirrel Tail towards Musgrave. Thank you, thank you, thank you!" -Citizen Comment "Accounts Payable Supervisor Patti McFarland was true to her word, she called me back within days to give a status report. Then she called again to update me. Then, she called today to let me know she had been able to contact the unreachable tow company, received an invoice, and would be reimbursing the portion the business manager agreed to pay! I know that it was a sustained effort because I tried for several months and got nowhere. I can't express my overwhelming gratitude to Patti and your office for their work in this matter. We run a service-based business and try to learn from other organizations whenever we can. I will bring up this instance at our weekly meeting as an example of good service to be commended and followed. Thanks to you and Patti for the surprisingly positive experience I had with your office." -Local Small Business Owner "Thanks to Traffic Technician Pete Doyle, his community attitude to work with the residents is commendable. Thank you once again." -Citizen Comment "Streets Operations Manager Bard Lower has provided me superb customer service, above and beyond what could reasonably be expected. I know that this has been a priority for your administration, and I felt it important to let you know that it is working. Mr. Lower and his associates deserve kudos for their proactive, thorough handling of this five-year-old snow plowing issue and I am grateful to you as well for making the City more responsive to citizen requests." -Citizen Comment "As a new resident of Colorado Springs, it’s apparent that the City really does excel in taking care of its residents and treats its citizens more like neighbors and friends than just customers on a long “to-do” list. Thank you for all your exceptional service." -Citizen Comment

Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus Meets Governor Hickenlooper

Mayor Steve Bach and members of the Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus met with Colorado Governor Hickenlooper and CDOT Executive Director, Don Hunt, to discuss transportation issues and state highways in the Pikes Peak Region.

In attendence (L-R) were Travis W. Easton (Mayor of Monument) El Paso County Commission Chair Amy Lathen, Jeri Howells (Mayor of Fountain), Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach, Governor Hickenlooper, Marc A. Snyder (Mayor of Manitou Springs) and Tyler Stephens (Mayor of Green Mountain Falls).

At the second meeting of the Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus, members determined it was important to bring local transportation concerns to Governor Hickenloopers attention.

Discussion focused on the level of funding provided to the Pikes Peak Region and representation on the State Transportation Commission. The Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus believes this lack of funding is partially the result of our low level of representation on the Commission. They also believe a new appropriation of commissioners should be considered to better represent the second largest city and most populous county in the state.

Governor Hickenlooper is supportive of the Mayors Caucus and believes it is the right thing to do.

Known for the open-collared look, he also said he loved the ties worn by the Mayors of the Pikes Peak Region!

City Helps Neighboring Green Mountain Falls

When the Town of Green Mountain Falls lost their historic Town Hall building to fire earlier this year, communities, citizens and organizations rallied to support them in their efforts to resume official activities. A Fire Recovery Fund was established and the City of Colorado Springs also offered assistance.

At a recent Mayors Caucus, Tyler Stevens, Mayor of Green Mountain Falls thanked Mayor Bach and everyone who stepped forward to help.

So it wasn’t surprising that when Nick Kittle from the City’s Office of Innovation and Sustainability spotted a fireproof filing cabinet that wasn’t being used, he thought of Mayor Bach’s offer to help.

Soon, Robert McArthur (left), the director of Public Works and Sean Newberry from the Town of Green Mountain Falls collected the surplus cabinet.

Thanks to Mayor Bach’s efforts to build alliances and strengthen relationships and Nick Kittle’s initiative, this fireproof filing cabinet now has a new home!

Second Meeting of Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus

Mayor Bach and members of the Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus met with media on March 5, 2012 and announced their purpose: they are a working group who come together to get things done.

Mayor Bach and members of the Caucus agreed there is need for increased state highway funding. They will ask for a meeting with Governor Hickenlooper to focus attention on this issue.

The Pikes Peak RegionMayors Caucus is patterned after Denver Mayor Hancock’s Mayors Conference. Mayor Bach attended the conference and found it was a very effective way to bring community leaders together to get things done. He stressed they are not a committee – they are an action group.

Mayor Bach was asked if these Mayors Caucus meetings will be open to the public in the future. He responded, “We will certainly discuss it and see if the group is open to it.”

Media also asked how members were selected for the Caucus. “We used the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments members and the Mayor of Canyon City may join us in the future as well,” he said.

The Mayor of Green Mountain Falls, Tyler Stevens, took a moment to thank everyone who expressed regrets and concern over the recent fire which destroyed their historic town hall building.

He also thanked the Friends of Green Mountain Falls for setting up a  Fire Recovery Fund through the Pikes Peak Community Foundation.

The Mayor closed the media meeting by saying that the Pikes Peak Region Mayors Caucus is not intended to take the place of City Council or the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments.

Updates from future meetings will be posted on the Mayor’s Twitter account, Facebook page and Newsfeed.
