Palisades and UCCS Receive Spirit of the Springs Award

Mayor Steve Bach recognized the partnership efforts of the Palisades at Broadmoor Park and University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) with a Spirit of the Springs Award, designed by Glassical.

 He was welcomed by Jeff Dunn, Principal of the Palisades with Donna Nelson of the City’s Office of Economic Vitality and Toby Gannett, Principal/Executive Director and Board Member of the Chamber and EDC .

The Palisades and UCCS recently received two international awards from the National Home Builder’s Association – a Gold Award for integrating technology into the senior living community and a Silver Award for a fitness and wellness program. There were more than 175 applicants from around the world.

 

Mayor Bach presented the Spirit of the Springs “Celebration” Award to UCCS Faculty Sara Qualls Ph.D., Amy Silva-Smith Ph.D., Mary Ann Kluge Ph.D. and to Toby Gannett and Jeff Dunn. “I hope you feel good about our community. Don’t you feel good about living here? This award is in recognition of the honor you have brought to Colorado Springs through your creativity and innovation.”

In turn, Palisades Principal, Jeff Dunn, presented a gift to the Mayor of an aerial photograph of the Palisades which was created by a resident. 

UCCS and Palisades have earned more than two dozen awards together as a result of their partnership.  This kind of collaboration to improve the lives of others is what Spirit of the Springs is all about.

Through the Spirit of the Springs initiative, the Mayor will recognize volunteer activities or noteworthy achievements which have brought great honor and pride to the City of Colorado Springs or were distinguished at a state, national or international level.

City of Colorado Springs Reinvents Employee Injury Response

City of Colorado Springs sworn employees will now receive a ”fast-tracked” response for knee and shoulder injuries.

This kind of process reinvention is an example of what Mayor Bach seeks through his efforts to Transform City Government.

If a sworn employee experiences a knee or shoulder injury, they will be seen in the City’s Occupational Health Clinic within one to two days.

The Physical Therapy Clinic will provide therapy with the goal of returning the employee to work as quickly as reasonable. Claims will be closely monitored and stats will be tracked as each claim closes with the goal of improved recovery time.
