Colorado Springs First Lady Suzi Bach visited Fort Carson on Friday, December 14th for two very important occasions.
First, was the dedication of the 4th Infantry Division Memorial. The Memorial will be a lasting tribute to the soldiers who have served in the 4th ID. It consists of five pillars featuring the campaign medals of all of the conflicts the division has participated in since World War I. The memorial was donated by the Balfour Beatty Communities Foundation, a non-profit committed to honoring military personnel.
Following the dedication, Suzi went to the headquarters of the 1st Brigade Combat Team to read a message from Mayor Steve Bach thanking them for their contributions to Operation Happy Holidays. “Your generous actions benefiting our neighbors in need are a true example of Christmas Spirit,” wrote the Mayor. On December 7th, the soldiers marched to the Marian House carrying toys, blankets, clothing, and food they had collected for donation. Mark Rohlena, president and CEO of Catholic Charities of Colorado Springs, had this to say about the Brigade’s donations, “These Soldiers already give us so much. It is a testament to the character of the Brigade that they would give so much to the people of this community in addition to all of the things they do here in the U.S. and overseas.” Suzi received a Unit Coin for the Mayor from Brigade Commander, Colonel Joel Tyler.
