On Tuesday, November 6th, Mayor Steve Bach was joined by Councilors Angela Dougan and Tim Leigh to present Spirit of the Springs Awards to The Classical Academy and Coronado High Schools in honor of their State Championship Cross Country teams.

Mayor Bach and TCA Coach Alan Versaw
First stop was a packed gymnasium for an assembly in honor of the Girls Cross Country team at TCA. Under the leadership of Coach Alan Versaw, the team has won the State Championship ten years in a row. The Mayor presented the school with a Spirit of the Springs Award and certificates to each individual student-athlete.
Coach Doug Hughill’s physics classroom was the stage to honor a team making school history. This was the first time for the Boy’s Cross Country team to win the State Championship. “Congratulations and thank you for inspiring the West Side following the devastation of the Waldo Canyon fire,” said the Mayor. The top academic students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade at Coronado are all Cross Country runners.
The Spirit of the Springs Award recognizes noteworthy achievements that bring great honor and pride to the City of Colorado Springs and distinguish us at a state, national or international level. Please join the Mayor and his wife Suzi in congratulating these Cross Country State Champions!
