Today, Mayor Steve Bach was back serving at Fort Carson. This time he wasn’t in the 5th Infantry Division; he was serving as the guest speaker at the Leadership Fort Carson breakfast. Leadership Fort Carson is a semi-annual event hosted by 4th Infantry Division Commander Major General Joseph Anderson. It gathers dozens of community leaders in the government, education, and business realms and takes them through a full day of learning, training, and leadership at Fort Carson.
During his speech, Mayor Bach emphasized that leadership comes in all shapes and sizes. “Whether is was Jeri Marr’s professionalism when briefing the public, the tireless efforts of first responders and public safety officials, young Rayne Rowley gathering books and toys for displaced children, or Governor John Hickenlooper flying down to support the City of Colorado Springs, the Waldo Canyon Fire showed us many different kinds of leadership.” The Mayor also praised the leadership qualities of fallen Colorado Springs Police Officer Matthew Tyner and Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan.
Mayor Bach closed his remarks with three of his favorite quotes on leadership:
- “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.” – President Ronald Reagan
- “If you just set out to be liked, you will be prepared to compromise on anything at any time, and would achieve nothing.” – British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher
- “A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader; a great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves.” – First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt
