On Monday, October 1st, Mayor Bach gave opening remarks at the Homeward Pikes Peak 10th Annual Conference on Homelessness. The Mayor called on the key stakeholders in the region to come together and address this issue in a comprehensive way.
Working alongside his wife Suzi and Councilman Merv Bennett, the Mayor is dedicated to leading a concentrated effort to become more pro-active on this issue. Suzi Bach has been working alongside the El Pomar foundation in researching best practices from other cities and across the nation. She has toured various organizations, volunteers at Catholic Charities once a month, and has ridden along with the CSPD Homeless Outreach Team.
This group of offices is focused on forming relationships and providing services to the homeless throughout the city. They have helped hundreds of homeless people find housing, work, or family connections. Because of the success of the Homeless Outreach Team, other cities are starting to inquire about setting up their own teams.
The research collected by Mrs. Bach will soon be presented to the Mayor and the plan is to host a comprehensive and pro-active event in early 2013.
