Mayor Steve Bach and his wife Suzi, CSFD Fire Chief Rich Brown, CSPD Police Chief Pete Carey and forest supervisor Jerri Marr joined the Sky Sox baseball team at Security Service Field to honor all first responders of the Waldo Canyon Fire.
The special event included discounted tickets for the game against the Fresno Grizzlies, Carlos Gonzales Bobble Head giveaway to the first 2,000 fans and special uniforms worn by the Sky Sox players during the game, which included CSFD and CSPD emblems on each sleeve and a special fire theme in the design. Suzi Bach, Chief Brown and Chief Carey threw the ceremonial first pitch. It was a great game with the Sky Sox winning 10-1!
After the game the special jerseys were auctioned off and the $24,000 raised from their sale was donated to local charities selected by the CSFD and CSPD.
“A hero is anyone who does what is right when it needs to be done,” said Mayor Bach, “and heroism can be found in everything from small acts of kindness to great sacrifices. These men and women whom we honor here today—the first responders and other rescue workers who battled the blaze of the Waldo Canyon Fire—are truly our heroes, and we cannot thank them enough for their service.”
