On Thursday, August 30th, Mayor Steve Bach spoke at the graduation ceremony for the third class of Community Service Officers. He congratulated these new Community Service Officers and thanked them for stepping forward to help the community in this time of need. After the Mayor’s remarks, Police Chief Pete Carey presented the graduates with their Appointment Letters.
These Officers help Patrol Units by alleviating those calls that are of a non-emergency nature and do not require a sworn officer to respond.
Types of calls that will be assigned to a Community Service Officer include: Motor Vehicle Thefts, 3rd degree Burglaries, Traffic Hazards/Traffic Control, Thefts from vehicles, VIN Verifications, Missing Persons, Lost or Stolen Property and Car Seat Safety Checks.
Community Service Officers will also be engaged as Ambassadors for the citizens of our community and will improve and enhance calls for service that were previously being handled by alternative means.
