Mayor Announces Creation of Streetscapes Solution Team
Mayor Steve Bach today announced the creation of a Streetscapes Solution Team. The Solution Team joins community leaders and staff to find ways to improve the appearance of our city through reinvention and innovation.
The Streetscapes Solution Team is charged with exploring options for beautifying neighborhoods without increased tax funding. The team will gather information on what is currently working and what isn’t in Colorado Springs as well as pull together best practices from other communities of similar climates. They will look at how existing revenue is used to determine if there are more effective and efficient uses of those funds to achieve streetscape landscaping in neighborhoods that is attractive, low maintenance and sustainable. They will also look at other resource options, including volunteers, corporate and individual sponsorship, and grant opportunities.
The Streetscapes Solution Team is headed by long-time neighborhood advocate Dave Munger. Team members include Tim Seibert (NES – local land planning firm), John Olson (local landscape architect), Sarah Bryarly (City Landscape Architect) and Ann Seymour (Utilities Water Conservation Manager).
“Our community is full of talented people with experience and knowledge who are more than willing to partner with City staff on a volunteer basis to find innovative solutions to challenges,” said Mayor Bach. “I appreciate the willingness of these citizens to step up and contribute in ways that will make a positive difference in our community.
The Streetscapes Solution Team is charged with finding ways to beautify neighborhoods without increasing taxes. This will build community and neighborhood pride as well as create tourist appeal.”
