On Saturday, September 8th, the Friends of Cheyenne Cañon were presented with a Spirit of the Springs award during the grand opening and dedication of the new Helen Hunt Falls Visitor Center.
The Friends of Cheyenne Cañon worked for over seven years to replace the antiquated log cabin visitor center at Helen Hunt Falls, fondly referred to as “the cub.” The new 1,386-square-foot Visitor Center still has the character of the original cabin but provides much needed space and amenities for staff and visitors. With a total project value in excess of $200,000, the Friends provided more than $115,000 in funding and materials, and facilitated the donation of design, engineering and contractor services estimated at $28,000. The City contributed the final $36,000 to build the new “cub.”
The Friends of Cheyenne Cañon have given back to our community in a big way and we are extremely thankful for their efforts. This will be a terrific amenity for North Cheyenne Cañon Park and the entire community.
