The recently completed London Olympics saw many local athletes competing. It would be easy to think that they were the only Colorado Springs residents accomplishing great things in England over the last few weeks. However, there’s another local who had a big accomplishment.
Colorado Springs Police Officer, Katie Benoit recently returned home after successfully swimming the English Channel in just over 13 hours. During this grueling 36 hour swim, Officer Benoit encountered cold temperatures, marine life, and various currents and tides pushing and pulling her in all directions. She has also swam the Catalina Channel off the coast of California and has completed the Manhattan Marathon Mile, which is a swim around Manhattan Island in New York. Officer Benoit put her swimming skills to great use during the city’s recent floods by entering high waters near the Citadel Mall to rescue citizens from flooding cars.
Please join Mayor Steve Bach and his wife Suzi in congratulating Officer Katie Benoit on her impressive achievement.
