Mayor Steve Bach climbed aboard a bucket truck Monday evening to return power to the last of the 3,500 streetlights that were shut off in 2009.
“Restoring the remaining 3,500 streetlights is one of the key community benefits in the City’s 2013 budget. With additional savings from 2012, we are glad to be able to restore this service to the citizens before the New Year,” said Mayor Bach.
“Streetlights are an important function in any urban environment to help provide better visibility and increase safety for drivers and pedestrians traveling at night,” said Transportation Manager Kathleen Krager.
Also on hand was Sean McCounaghey from Mitchell High School to provide a ceremonial drum roll.
All streetlights in Colorado Springs should now be illuminated. If you see a light burned out, please contact the City’s Traffic Engineering Department at 385-5908 or Colorado Springs Utilities at 448-4800.
