Crowds in the thousands lined the streets of Colorado Springs to see the Festival of Lights Parade. Jerri Marr of the US Forest Service was the Grand Marshall and rode along side Smokey Bear. Mayor Steve Bach and his wife Suzi were joined by members of the State Champion Cheyenne Mountain High School Volleyball team: Megan Schultz, Courtney Tibbetts, Haily Tibbetts, Monique Domme, and Lauren Iverson.
Warm temperatures brought tens of thousands of spectators to the most popular parade in the city. Sixty seven organizations were represented in this year’s parade including the United States Olympic Committee, Ronald McDonald House, Meadow Gold, CSFD Explorers, Palmer, Harrison, and Sand Creek High School Marching Bands, Adopt-a-Greyhound, Metro Transit, the Gazette, Coca-Cola, and Chick-fil-A.
“This is a glorious event that brings families and friends together for a fun night that kicks off the holiday season. It was wonderful to see so many at this year’s parade. My thanks to all of those who worked hard to coordinate this event and to those who attended – it was a beautiful gathering,” said Mayor Bach.
The Festival of Lights Parade dates back to 1984 and gets bigger and better every year. You can watch the parade on TV on KKTV on Christmas Day.
